A new picture book by Linda

Meet Phineous Feathergill

Spiky, wide-eyed, a little bit clumsy and all heart, Phineous is the newest character to fly out of Linda's studio. After decades of painting murals, portraits and dream bedrooms for kids, she's put her brushes to work on a storybook.

The Book

Phineous Feathergill

Deep in a green and tangled garden lives Phineous Feathergill, a puff of a bird with prickly spines, round spectacles and feathers that look like they were painted on with a brush (because they were).

Along the way you'll meet a giraffe who never goes anywhere without a necktie, a raccoon in a patched-up vest, an elephant who can't stay out of the mud, a turtle in a pinwheel cap, and a curious little girl who finds them all.

Written and illustrated by hand, every page painted by Linda.

About the artist

Hi, I'm Linda.

My love of art goes back to the age of four, when my mother handed me paper plates so I could draw the mountains as we drove from one coast to the other. I've been painting ever since, in school projects, showrooms, model homes, kids' bedrooms and, these days, the pages of a storybook.

I'm married, with three sons, a daughter and six grandchildren. My own home has become my canvas, from its walls to its concrete slab. Nothing escapes the palette knife or brush.

A few happy moments along the way

  • Studied in a special course with Paul Dufour, professor of art at Louisiana State University.
  • Ten years designing showrooms and windows at the World Trade Center in Dallas.
  • Created the limited-edition Christmas Festival print for Natchitoches, Louisiana, exhibited in the State Capitol and in Washington, D.C.
  • Murals in homes and businesses across the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, including two Mac Sam awards for model homes with an interior designer.
  • Designed the Boys and Girls of America fundraising banquet brochures for years. Original art auctioned there raised over $11,000.
  • Best of Show and multiple first-place awards in professional art competitions.

Let's paint something wonderful.

Have a wall that needs a jungle, a portrait in mind, or a question about the book? Linda would love to hear from you.
